Privacy Statement

I will keep records of the information you provide me when you first make contact, and at the start of counselling / coaching, and I may make brief notes of our sessions.  All electronic data is held securely and password protected, and all paper data is held in a locked cabinet.  This information includes:

  • Your name, address, date of birth and contact details

  • Your GP’s name, surgery name, address and contact details (counselling clients only)

  • Information you have provided about your health and wellbeing and any previous counselling / coaching you have had in the past (if applicable)

  • Details of how you found out about me

 

All records are kept in line with the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) and guidelines provided by the National Counselling Society.  I am registered with the Information Commissioners Office as a Data Controller. 

Information is used for 2 purposes:

  • To enable me to provide the counselling / coaching services

  • For business management and administration (e.g.  banking, tax assessment, diary management)

 

At the end of our sessions, I will securely destroy any session notes I have made.  I will retain limited records relating to our work (e.g. your name and contact details, number of sessions  held, dates and times of sessions, financial records, but not session content) for no longer than seven years after our work together ends.

Confidentiality

The counselling / coaching services I provide are confidential.  It is essential to our work that you know that what you say to me will not be discussed outside our sessions.

There are however the following exceptions:

  • As a requirement of my ongoing professional development as a counsellor and coach, I attend regular supervision sessions with a qualified counselling and coaching supervisor.  During these sessions, I discuss my client work with my supervisor.  To ensure anonymity, I will refer to you by first name only in these sessions. 

  • If I believe you are at risk of seriously harming yourself or harming others, I reserve the right to alert your GP, the police, or the emergency services.  Before taking this course of action I would normally discuss my concerns and my intentions with you.

  • I am legally required to report acts of money laundering, drug trafficking and terrorism.
